Broadmeadows
I’ve had the combination role of Youth Worker and Music Teacher in Broadmeadows for around 4 years now and quite honestly, I quickly fell in love with the place. When people talk about Broadmeadows, they usually bring up its engrained criminal history or it’s soaring unemployment rates, there’s generally not much positive spoken about this Northern Suburbs grey area. But I’ve had the pleasure to see the heart of this place… and it’s big.
The people here are real, they don’t wear masks, they are who they are and it’s rare to see finer qualities in today’s fabricated society. Everyone I have taught or worked with has had a significant impact on me, something that is unmatched in many other places I’ve worked.
People from Broady are not disadvantaged; they are just placed in disadvantaged situations, bearing opportunities that are scarce. I myself, wasn’t brought into this world with a silver spoon and it helped calve out a character which I wear proudly wherever I go and I see the same with my Broady comrades.
I have met people out here that far exceed my intelligence and their futures are brighter than most. It’s more about survival of this fittest in Broady and the ones that do survive, come out the toughest. I'm proud to be apart of the fabric.
